The city of Draper, Utah is just 26 miles south of Salt Lake City. Draper was settled in 1849 but did not become a city until 1978. It is about halfway between Salt Lake City and Provo. Interestingly enough, the city lies in two different counties, Salt Lake and Utah. In 1854, the first post office was established with the name Draperville. Years later, it was shortened to Draper. In 20 years the population grew from 7,000 to over 42,000 in 2010.
The land that was once bountiful farmland, is now inhabited with beautiful townhomes, houses, shops, and restaurants. Just about everything you need is within walking distance. Old meets new in a very pleasing way here in Draper. As you travel down the quaint streets of oldtown Draper, you’ll see historic buildings along a gorgeous city park, and a modern library behind wide open pastures.
Getting a little farther from the city you will find numerous parks, trails, and a Flight Park State Recreation Area. The winds on Traverse Ridge, make it a popular place for hang gliding and paragliding. If that’s not your thing, you can still enjoy the view and see the sky full of those that are more adventurous.
If you prefer to stay on the ground, but need some entertainment, you can get spoiled at Draper Cinemark where all the seats recline or have an adventure “under the sea” at the Loveland Planet Aquarium.
