What I Love About Salt Lake City
Whether you are an avid hiker, snow bunny, bird watcher, nature enthusiast, entrepreneur, biker, or just a hip kid, there is something for you to enjoy. No matter where you live in the Salt Lake Valley, you can get to the mountains for some much needed fresh air and relaxing scenery. At the same time, you can experience the culture and festivities of Downtown Salt Lake.
Having experienced living in other states, as well as out of the country, I can really appreciate walking into a smoke-free restaurant, and the cleanliness of the city, and surrounding areas. I take pride in the fact that most visitors to SLC have nice things to say about our citizens.
It started as a Mormon settlement in 1847, but the Shoshone, Ute, and Paiute Indians had dwelt in the Salt Lake Valley for thousands of years. Immigration of LDS members, mining booms, and the construction of the first transcontinental railroad initially brought economic growth, and the city was nicknamed the Crossroads of the West. Salt Lake City has since developed a strong outdoor recreation tourist industry based primarily on skiing, and hosted the 2002 Winter Olympics. It is the industrial banking center of the United States.
If you have kids, there are many college options close to home. Salt Lake Community College has expanded to several campuses throughout the valley and makes living at home while attending college as a nice option. The University of Utah is just up the hill, Weber State and Utah State University a short trip up north, and Utah Valley University and Brigham Young University just south.
This place is growing like crazy!! When I first moved here in 1997, Bangerter highway on the west side of the valley only went as far south as 90th. It connects right into the 1-15 now. See, this place is awesome, and people that visit, realize that and then they move here.
